On 8 February 2024, just 20 days before LINZ Minister Chris Penk signed off on the SIRRL OIO consent, the Minister met with a member of his constituency, retired Energy Analyst Steve Goldthorpe. Mr Goldthorpe and Minister Penk discussed two incinerator projects being promoted at that time, one of which was SIRRL’s ‘Project Kea’. In the half-hour meeting, Mr Goldthorpe provided information that countered SIRRL’s energy benefit claims. Minister Penk was provided with a briefing note to take away; see below.
